MM slams on the brakes, screeches the car to a halt at the side of the fortunately empty highway, is staring straight ahead when he says, “Get out.”
And Hughie does, but he’s laughing, and he sees the shine of begrudging humour in MM’s eyes too as he drives away. It feels so different to the last time he was left behind, tyres spinning, loose gravel flying.
Because this time it’s Butcher who pulls up alongside him.
