Summary
"People say there are strange creatures that live in the subway system, roaming the streets of New York City at night. Some say they’ve seen them crawling on walls and ceilings, like spiders. That’s why they’re called the Arachnae."
Miles Morales is bitten by a spider and his entire world is flipped upside down. Suddenly, everyone is horrified of him, shunning him at every turn. Miles flees into the subway system to try and find answers. There, he meets a group of other people who experienced the same thing-- they're Arachnae, creatures of urban legends around NYC that Miles had always assumed were fake. Now, he has no choice but to leave his old life behind and embrace his identity with the guidance of his new friends. As he grapples with the precarious balance between devotion to his fellow Arachnae and his desire for freedom, crime rates begin to rise, and Arachnae hunters prowl the city in search of the only people Miles has left.

All of him surrounded by all of that, and the unfortunate feeling that he'd never been so fucking close to something he wanted while also nowhere near it.

Ryland looked down at his clipboard, where he had written a reasonable script, supplied earlier that day by Adrian. Unfortunately, the moment his eyes landed on the words, his brain supplied only terrible ways to say them.
He chose the worst one.
“I need flowers with prominent reproductive structures.”
The man went completely still.
Ryland could feel his soul attempting to leave his body.
“For a plant anatomy lab,” he added quickly. “For my students. Middle school students. Not–” He cut himself off, because there was simply no end to that sentence that would improve his situation. Instead, he just weakly smiled, and added “Science.”

Grace knows he was supposed to be in his house on Erid, Simon knows this new guy cannot possibly be a hallucination, and Ava, upon hearing Grace ramble about theories for how he got there, knows that new guy is Smart. Could-Secure-Our-Survival Smart.
She orders Simon to bring Grace back to the surface, and thus begins Grace's ordeal in a starless universe.
