The way it works is like this:
Thua holds the trembling sun of his affections in his palm. He holds it carefully, safe from digging eyes and lightning tongues, and then, when it’s warmed him enough to threaten third-degree burns, he pushes it in the crevice between the bench and the backs of his knees.
The way it is never meant to work is like this:
That same sun leaking radiance. Hanging bare on his sleeve. An infirmary bed and Kan in it, eyes refusing to meet his.
