Why? Why was she, here again, trapped between bars, this time of her own creation? How did she always manage to end up right where she started? Always alone, always carrying the burden of everyone and all. their. decisions. Everything, always, somehow, being her fault. Every choice, every decision all lead to the same question “How can I be this fucking stupid?”, it made her want to hit her head against the wall until nothing mattered and all thoughts blurred away.

When that point in Mark’s favor suddenly comes to Kit’s attention like this, he's forcefully reminded of the weeks he spent repressing his crush on Mark after they first met. Then, as now, he wandered through his days in something like a permanent daydream, stuck in a liminal space of imagining all the things he’d like to do with Mark.
The absurdity now of course is that Mark is his and Kit can do all of those things if he just asks.
