“Okay, so,” Wocky says, running a hand through his hair, “if you were gonna, y’know, hypothetical-like propose to a girl - your girl, specifically - and you’re mad in love with her and to be honest that kind of freaks you out ‘cause the last girl you ran with tried to kill you, well, not directly, but kind of directly ‘cause there was definitely intent to die there which makes you kinda jumpy over tryin’ it again round two style, like…how would you go about doin’ that?” He pauses. “Uh. I’m askin’ for a friend.”
Trucy Wright blinks at him. She’s holding a chocolate zucchini muffin. “Um. I just asked for a bag.”

Summary
The shadow of a sand tiger falls over them, and Wocky looks up with his big brown eyes as the shark passes leisurely overhead. He looks so pretty in the aquarium’s soft light, Vera thinks, as he stares up at those sharks swimming by, the sharks and the great massive fish and rays with their whiplike tails. Vera has the sudden urge to paint this scene, Wocky staring up at the sharks with his hands against the glass and his hair tied back in that purple scrunchie of his, the ripples in the water reflected on his face like they’re both submerged in water together. When he catches her looking, he smiles, and it’s that big crooked smile of his that Vera likes so much but it’s slightly sheepish too, his cheeks tinged pink and she feels her heart like a bird in her chest.

Summary
Wocky is silent for a moment. So silent, in fact, that Plum thought he left the room. “Yeah, s’pose so, I just…” he mutters, and there’s something in his voice that snags in Plum’s ears, a nervous little waver that causes her to lift her head from the books, pen stilling in her hand. “I just wanted your help. Specifically.”
Plum turns in her chair, then, to face her son standing there in the doorway stubbornly looking everywhere but at her, his hands shoved under his armpits and flour drowning the freckles at the bridge of his nose but not enough to hide the flush staining his cheeks.
Oh, Plum thinks, then. Because this isn’t about bread at all.in which wocky kitaki has something kind of important to tell his mother

Summary
He’s drowning in an oversized, pastel blue sweatshirt, the cuffs draping over his knuckles. He isn’t wearing any of his usual rings, and Vera finds it odd to see his hands looking so bare, as if their absence alone is a sign that he’s sick. He has on a pair of those terrible zebra print pajama pants, folded up at the ankles because they’re just a little too long for him, and a single sock. His hair is pulled back off his forehead with a sparkly pink headband, though one little auburn curl has escaped to bounce at his pale, sweaty skin. He squints up at Vera, confused; he has faint shadows under his bleary eyes, and when he speaks, his voice is rough and scratchy, like she roused him from sleep after all.
“Vera?” He asks, and he says her name slowly, brows knitted together. It’s understandable: she’s never been to his apartment before, and he probably wasn’t expecting to see her today at all.
So Vera wordlessly holds up the Tupperware of soup in lieu of explanation, and hopes that's enough.In which Wocky Kitaki is sick, and Vera Misham is roped in to bringing him soup by a certain conniving mother

Summary
“VERA,” Wocky’s voice calls, at the very top of his lungs. “Ver, where are you? I got somethin’ real important to show you. I wouldn’t say, like, life or death kinda important but maybe like a step and a half below that ‘cause it’s still pretty fuckin’ important.”
A smile tugs at Vera’s lips. She leaves her brush in the water cup and sets down her palette, leaving her canvas for another time as she heads inside. She only gets about halfway through the sliding glass door into the living room before she stops dead in her tracks.
“Look, ladybird!” Wocky says excitedly, standing in the middle of the living room. “I made a friend!”
And in his arms, looking distinctly unimpressed, is the largest cat Vera’s ever seen.in which wocky kitaki finds a cat in an alley and begs his girlfriend to let him keep him

It’s not even a big spider.
If she had to guess, it’s only about the size of a dime including the legs. Even that might be a little too generous, really. Judging by the way that Wocky screamed from the living room while she’d been making dinner, Vera thought it would’ve been bigger. Really, by the way that Wocky screamed, she thought it would’ve been something like a black widow or a brown recluse, or even one of those giant, bird-eating tarantulas from Australia (though how it would’ve crossed the ocean and made its way into their one bedroom apartment to terrorize her boyfriend is anyone’s guess).in which there is a spider in Wocky and Vera's apartment, and Wocky is unfortunately terrified of spiders

Summary
Vera slips on her boots and picks her keys up from the bowl on the table. Her travel bag with art supplies is where she always leaves it - the hook right by the door. “I’m leaving now.”
“Sounds good, Ver. See you soon, love you.”
Vera freezes in the doorway, her hand halfway to her art bag. Wocky sucks in a sharp breath on the other side of the phone.
And then, there is a pause.
It’s a long, loud, stretched-out pause, the kind of pause where it feels like time has stopped entirely and Vera swears when she looks wide-eyed back at the clock behind her the minute hand has ceased ticking.
Wocky is dead silent. So quiet Vera checks to see if he’d hung up on her, but no, the call time is still steadily climbing upwards.
“…What did you just say?” Vera asks softly, worried she misheard.in which wocky kitaki accidentally tells vera misham he loves her, and has to face what that might mean
