Naturally, Kel’s goal was to stop the car, slow down, and dodge the inadvertent roadblock set up by the paramedics.
Like he was playing Russian Roulette, he made a split-second decision he didn’t have the time to hope was right. He lurched forward in horror as his lead foot collided with the gas pedal instead of the brake.
“Get out of the way!” he screamed until his throat was raw. “Move!”
Kel saw the silhouette of a man in rescue gear directly in front of his vehicle, the sheer terror in the young man’s frantic eyes illuminated by the yellow glow of the headlights moments before he was struck.

Summary
When Johnny Gage goes from bouncy, happy about everything in life to withdrawn not talking to anyone in just under twenty-four hours, his partner and coworkers are all worried about him. Especially when he keeps denying anything is wrong and keeps hiding away in other parts of the station from the rest of the crew. A major MVA brings everything to light, and then all that's left to do is heal up.

"John never liked going on domestic disturbance with injury calls... He liked being able to help these people, of course, but these kinds of runs always left him feeling uptight and angry. He knew Roy felt the same way, probably worse because he had a wife and kids of his own. No one else at 51 liked them, either. John would see Cap and Stoker narrow their eyes, Marco shake his head, and Chet tense up a bit, clenching his fists slightly. This call, however, sent the blood draining from Chet's face; he must have recognized the address."
