Summary
Literature has always been one of Ash’s favorite hobbies.
Of course, he hasn't had the chance to participate in the activity—whether reading or writing—for a long while now. Duty calls, afterall. The duties that come with ruling over a crumbling nation, but he digresses.
He's slowly making his way back into the field with journalism, though. A habit he formed during his kidnapping, you could say.
It's a nice form of self-expression, as Katie would put it.
The entries themselves are lackluster. Nothing that would make the front page of the island's newspaper or get an interesting headline. Just paragraphs detailing his family life—maybe his and Ewron's feud of the day. Miscellaneous things like that.
That's how they started, at least. Once he started delving into his feelings, it got rather… oh, he doesn't know—intimate?
Explicit might be a better term.
Or, Ash picks up a new journaling hobby.

Summary
He can only sit there, staring at Ewron as if the world is about to collapse around him and tear him apart. Is he shaking? He can’t quite tell.
Logically, Ash should feel angry. Hateful. That's what normal people feel whenever they come across their ex in public. Sure, there's a tight knot in his stomach, but he wouldn't call that hate.
There's a part of him that feels a hint of yearning woven in, too. Not that he’ll acknowledge it.
Ewron rises to his feet and flicks his eyes up and down his face like he’s waiting for Ash to say something.
He doesn't know if he can.
Or, Ash and Ewron make (and mend) their family, however strange their methods may be.

Summary
Flame can sense her shrug through the line. "So?" she tuts. "Wemmbu's not gonna be there."
Admittedly, she perks up like a dog at that. For as long as she can remember, she and Wemmbu have always competed for the same role, no matter how big or small. Flame swears it's not intentional. At least, not on her part.
Even now, that conniving bitch auditioned for the same role as her. Which, mind you, she didn't tell anyone about. Seriously, what a stalker.
Plus, it'd be a first for her to not go to a party. Sometimes, Flame feels like she's being haunted by that obnoxious flash of purple whenever she's dragged out of the house.
It usually doesn’t end well, either. The last time she saw Wemmbu at a party, it ended up a mess. She had one too many drinks, said a few things she probably shouldn’t have, and maybe they fought. Just maybe.
The point is, since then, she's vowed never to attend another party. Until now, it seems.
Or, Flame manages to enjoy herself at a party for once. Somewhat.

Summary
He presses on the skin next to the slash. It brings more blood to the surface, leaking rain-like droplets onto his palm.
Shame burns beneath his navel; broils so brightly that it nearly extinguishes the flames of desire burning alongside it. He shouldn't have hurt him. That's all Ash tends to do these days, hurting those he loves.
Ash breathes out. It’s a shaky drag of air, and Ewron frowns.
"I'm fine," he assures. The words bounce off him like raindrops off a metal roof.
It doesn't matter if he's fine. Ash hurt him.
The lump that forms in his throat is sudden. He immediately swallows it down. Ewron's enjoying this, so he should too. It'd be selfish of him to stop this because he didn't like it.
Ash doesn't know why that line of thought seems so familiar.
Or, Ash and Ewron's needs don't quite sync up.

Summary
Ewron likes to think he's a very capable man, and an even more capable assassin.
Sure, the Hussars, his hit squad, keep him in the dark about their plans, which is funny considering he grew up with them, but that only makes him more independent.
Regardless, they trust him to get the job done. That’s all he needs. They wouldn’t have chosen him from the four of them to assassinate the Supreme Leader of The Regime if they didn't trust him.
Then again, maybe that doesn’t hold much weight. He’s the only person in their entire group who carries out the killings.
Or, Ash and Ewron both plan to kill each other, but end up more attached than they should be.

“Wings.” Ewron exhales softly, expression going slack.
Two crescent moons (more crater than lunar dust). Stunted. Weighted down by neglect. Ewron can’t tell which bird they’re corresponding to, but the murky black pinions sit huddled between Ash’s shoulderblades like a narrow valley.
“Wings,” Ash says it through his teeth, as though admitting to a nasty, untreated wound. But they’re incredible—like a siren or an angel—Ewron can’t decide, not when his hands are already searching for a bucket. “I could never reach them. They’re kind of. A mess, now.”

AAAAAAAAUGHHH. that’s how i felt reading this. i don’t read wing fics (not because they’re bad or anything, i just don’t stumble upon em in my fandoms) but this is a game changer wow. wonderful introduction to the genre. the intimacy between ashwron here is just so beautiful and soft. as usual w toby’s fics the writing is amazing read read read read it now

“I'd let you,” Ewron says, disdain burning in his glare, “choke me until I have no hearts left.”
He tugs at Ash’s jacket to have him closer, aggressive like a dog pulling at a piece of meat to tear it apart. For a heartbeat, an ugly urge to punch and kick Ewron until he bleeds flashes in his mind. And it doesn't seem like too bad of an idea.
“That's no pledge of loyalty.” He grins incredulously. His calf presses down on Ewron’s thighs, keeping him locked. “You'd enjoy it.”
He hums. “I’d let you rip the amulet away from my neck and leave me weak again.”
“Really? How touching.”
Settles on the last resort. “I would let you do anything, and I’d do everything for you, too.”
Ash reminds Ewron who he pledged his loyalty to that first day.
