Mac jumps in his seat when he looks up and finds Dennis right in front of him, practically standing in the empty space between his parted legs.
“Jesus, dude, you scared the shit out of me, I didn’t even hear you—”
“I said,” Dennis leans forward. “You feel like doing something with this tonight?”
Crisp white shirt. Pressed black slacks. Dennis loops his thumbs behind the firm line of his black leather belt, head tipped to the right as though the lopsided smirk blurring his mouth is too heavy to hold up straight. It’s all Mac can do to clumsily disguise the air escaping his lungs with the wobbly thunk of his mug against the coffee table.
“You kept it?” Mac asks, eyes widening. “How…how’d you get all the blood and oil stains out?”
“Just answer the question, Mac.”

Mac’s mouth waters at the sound of the tape whirring in the VCR, at the way the light from the TV splashes phosphorescent blue across the darkened dorm room, sharpening the edges of the textbooks stacked on the desk and the soft lines of his bare thighs against the bedsheets. He swallows around his Pavlovian response when the right side of the mattress dips, eyes trained in the direction of the TV but hard to feel anything beyond the electric sensation of Dennis’ arm grazing his. He hands him the half-empty bottle - lotion, not booze, he laments - the fifth of Jose Cuervo sits empty on the nightstand, the sugary-sour flavor still heavy on his tongue.
It’s not gay if you’re looking at tits, bro. That’s what Dennis told him the first time, right?
At any rate, that’s the version of the truth Mac’s let himself believe, the first time and every time after.

It's not his fault that the walls of Mac's room are paper-thin; that he can hear every squeaking box spring, every moan that moves between the two men inside it. What's he supposed to do? Dennis runs his tongue across his palm before slipping his fingers between warm skin and tight elastic. If Mac's happy shamelessly getting his dick wet within spitting distance of his roommate, what's stopping him from doing the same? It's not illegal to listen to two people having sex - in fact, in the privacy of your own home, it's barely even unethical. He can hear one of them panting so loudly that it's practically public domain at this point. It's a matter of principle. It's quid pro quo. It's just because it's been a while that he's riled up like this - and, besides the fact that he can smell Mac in every fiber of the hoodie he's wearing, it's actually got nothing to do with Mac at all. Mac.
Fuck Mac. Fuck, Mac.
Mac, he thinks, definitely has nothing to do with the small sigh that escapes the back of his throat when he finally wraps five slick fingers around himself.

When the screen blinks to life, it takes a second for Dennis to take it in, to comprehend the scene unfolding before him: it’s undeniably Mac, but not the Mac he was expecting. This Mac is doe-eyed and serene, his long eyelashes fluttering against his high cheekbones as he sits on the edge of the bed in his too-tight t-shirt, dark blue shorts riding high up his pale, skinny thighs. He doesn't even have that god-awful shamrock tattoo yet, he realizes as Mac leans back on his elbows, tipping his head to the side as he spreads his legs for the camera. Dennis feels the heat rising in his neck as the Mac in the video looks right at him.
"Mac...h-how old are you in this?" he rasps out, throat suddenly dry.
"Twenty, maybe?”
“Twenty?”
