Summary
There were white pants that looked oddly similar to his white flight suit, his favorite fox cardigan, glasses that only had more trouble staying straight on his nose as they got older, and a wind ruffled mop of dirty blond hair.
Himself. He was staring at himself and himself was staring right back, sea storm blue eyes wide with shock.
Dr. Ryland Grace, both of them, let out a long, loud, high pitched scream.
---
Ryland Grace, alone on the Hail Mary, gets to meet a version of himself from an unknown future that gives him hope.

Summary
“Eva Stratt, you are under arrest.”
She wonders what they’ll charge her with as they place the handcuffs around her wrists. Environmental destruction, certainly. Extortion and racketeering? Probably. Someone could make the case for smuggling—it would be interesting if they got her on piracy. She turns to give her final good-byes, and her heart stops.
“Ryland Grace, you are under arrest.”
OR
Eva Stratt was prepared to be the world's scapegoat. She'd angered too many people and skirted too many rules not to be. She didn't expect Ryland Grace to get arrested right alongside her.

Summary
Grace is unprepared for the level of love that all of Erid seemed to have for him. It was vaguely terrifying, but also.... nice? To be cared for. To be wanted.
It gets worse when they find out the circumstances of him ending up on the Hail Mary.
When his declining health necessitates a trip back to Earth, he is faced with a planet that loves him so fiercely and wonderfully that it finally starts to break through his crippling lack of self worth and bloom into something incredible.
And Earth? Earth has to deal with an Erid that is polite, protective, and most of all, pissed.

Bookmarker's Notes
Grace talked about how much humans love.
He’d wanted to keep it contained to just empathy in particular, but he couldn’t stop himself from talking about anything and everything he could remember about humans’ incredible capacity to care about others. The words fell out of him like a dam breaking.
He talked about the Christmas Truce of World War One. He talked about the African Maasi tribe that donated their most precious possession of fourteen cows to the United States after 9/11. He talked about how Mr. Rogers always said he was feeding his fish out loud because he had heard that a little girl who was blind was worried about them. He talked about Bob freakin’ Ross. He talked about big things as well- about charity and marriage and friendship and so much more. He talked about how the only reason he would be able to get a heart transplant is because some kind person or their family would choose to donate theirs once they passed.
He talked about Ilyukhina, Yao, Dubois and Shapiro. He talked about their hope for the future, about their bravery, and how fiercely they loved each other by the end of their years on the Pertova Taskforce.
He didn’t talk about Stratt. He thinks she might have loved him, once, in that strange way only she understood and that could never become anything more. Grace chose to leave that for himself.
Rocky and Wilson had been trying to interrupt for the past hour, but Grace couldn’t make himself stop. It was only when he could no longer speak that he finally allowed Rocky to dismiss the class on his behalf. He’d got through the entire oxygen canister and his breath was coming in wheezing gasps, but even then he’d had to be gently forced to stop by his friends.
Grace didn’t let himself cry until he was out of the classroom.
