“I see. Then tell me, Aventurine, what are the odds you’re in danger right now?”
His mouth suddenly went dry and he slowly looked up at Ratio, a weak smile slipping onto his lips. That anxiety leaped into his throat, coursing through his body as he wiggled his limbs, finding no escape.
“I’m extremely lucky, Ratio.”
“You aren’t today.”
Doctor Ratio peppered kisses along Aventurine’s neckline, tugging on his wrists that were snugly held behind his back until Aventurine was laying down on the bed. He was frozen, mouth agape in horror, a single tear weeping from his eye. He was lucky, the luckiest person he’d ever known, there’s no way this was happening to him. But alas, it was indeed.
Life would be quite dull if it were just an unending series of wins, wouldn’t it?

“I work here,” he murmured, touching Ratio’s chest—right over his heart. “And here…” He ran his fingers slowly down the buttons of his shirt, all the way to the scarlet belt at his waist. “My job is simple. To make you feel good.”
“That’s why you wear that brand?”
The incubus touched his neck reflexively. Ratio had noticed even his mark—the pact he had forged with the Devil himself. “My brand has nothing to do with this. I’m a sex worker. I like what I do.”
“How curious,” the other murmured, leaning close enough for his lips to brush Aventurine’s. Aventurine exhaled against them, savoring the surprise he caused. “You look like an incubus.”

“So, the great Veritas Ratio is afraid of some little waves? Guess your boasted repertoire of skillsets don’t include the laws of buoyancy and surfing techniques, huh?” Aventurine goads with a smirk.
Ratio scoffs and takes a step forward because idiocy is contagious. “Who says I’m scared? Watch, and maybe you’ll learn something.”
It takes Ratio less than a minute before he accidentally head-dives into the sea and ends up with a jellyfish imagenae stuck on his head.
Ratio thinks the loss of his dignity is probably a sufficient trade. He would make a fool of himself any time, as long as it meant Aventurine kept laughing at him like that—eyes catching against the sunlight, bright, free and unbidden, present and here.
Or in which Ratio thinks a surfing Aventurine is apparently very attractive and does something about it.
