Some people say that they dream of their soulmates all of their lives. Abstract images dancing behind fluttering eyelids long before they meet. A cluster of leaves, inscrutable until the flash of a birthmark on a stranger passing by. And then a tug on their heartstrings. The first raindrops of a summer storm on concrete morphing into a smattering of moles on a lover's back. A tingling in their fingers. The translucent blue suspended within the crest of a crashing wave, captured in the piercing eyes of a fellow student at orientation. Baby hairs standing up on the backs of their necks.
Not everyone believes in soulmates. Five-year-old Zoey doesn't think she wants to.

“No, hold on,” Mira said, a smile slowly spreading across her face. “I think she’s onto something here.”

Summary
Caitlyn glances out Vi’s window as they emerge from another cloud. Hopes to glimpse the sun setting behind the coastal mountains, their silhouetted peaks framed by brilliant orange and yellow and gold, their shadows crawling east across the clouds. Instead she sees a barricade of emerald green and midnight blue and charcoal gray unfurling as it hurtles toward them. A vertical ocean of swirling waves stretching in every direction, illuminated by bursts of lighting.
“Vi?”
Vi looks over. Snaps her head back to look again. “A supercell?” The color drains from her face. “Where did–” Caitlyn feels a shudder run through the floor. Through her boots. Up her seat. Up her spine. Vi clutches the yoke, fights the tremors. The hull shudders again. And again. Starts to shake, the rattles building and building and building until Caitlyn is bouncing off of her seat, fingernails clawing into the cushion.

Survival Adventure AU. Caitlyn and Vi are separated when their plane crashes in the snowy mountains. They must learn to survive the frigid winter as they find their way back to each other in more ways than one.

Vi can ignore the constant ache in her hands. The way it radiates up her wrists, kissing her knuckles before settling under her nails, and down her forearms, plucking at her tendons before hugging her elbows. Can ignore the percussive cracking and popping of joints. The rhythmic grinding of bone on bone. The sharp bites of pain that sing under her skin.
The random bouts of numbness are new. In a fun, concerning, 'this is probably not a good sign,' kind of way. In a 'you should tell Caitlyn' kind of way.
