Summary
Olruggio sighed through his nose, the sound carrying equal parts amusement and surrender. There was a time and a place to argue, and Qifrey could insufferable when he wanted to. He was too tired to take anything but the path of least resistance. Without another protest, he laid his right hand on the edge of the desk.
Qifrey lifted it gently, like he was holding something delicate and deserving of reverence.
Even after all these years, he never ceased marveling at Olruggio's hands.
His long fingers were stained permanently with charcoal and ink. Tiny scars scattered across his knuckles from years of carving tools and grinding pigments and there was a faint callus where his pen rested, another across the side of his thumb. They were the hands of someone who wrote beauty and painted love one careful line and one elegant rune at a time.
Tonight, just like the man they were attached to, Qifrey could feel the weight of work rest heavy in them. The fingers were stiff, reluctant to straighten completely, curled slightly as if still holding a pen, though Olruggio had just set it down.

Summary
Olruggio was in love with his best friend. Qifrey's actions made it clear that he didn't love him back, at least not in the way Olruggio wanted to be loved. No matter how many times he tried to get over it, his heart had made it's choice, and it wouldn't let go.

Summary
"Then Olruggio looked at the retreating form of the teacher, the man whom he had spend almost his entire life knowing, and not knowing. The man whom he had fight tooth and nail to stay close, even as the looming wall Qifrey put up around himself towered over their head. His heart ached a smoldering pain, one that he could not, for the life of his, explain why. The same way he could not explain why he didn't dare try to approach that invisible wall of the other man, to break it down, to call out to he who buried deep within. Knowing himself, he normally would have done that a thousand times before and a thousand times more."
He who longs for proximity and he who runs away from it. He who's letting go and he who's holding on tighter.

Summary
The best days hurt the most. Sun-soaked mornings lingering in bed, afternoons watching the clouds roll by, evenings spent curled up at the hearth. It's too good for him and Qifrey knows it. When the cosy little atelier he and Olly are building finally comes crashing down around him, there's a decision to be made. About what he's willing to lose, or perhaps what new trials he might be willing to face. Apprentices always seemed quite stressful, right?
This is a prequel to An Atelier for Wayward Children, but they can be read in either order! Please mind the tags.

Summary
“You know,” Olruggio says, roughly. He doesn’t move to take Qifrey’s hand again. “You know. You can’t not know, Qifrey.”
Qifrey just looks at him. “I do.”
The rain continues falling.
(And so Olruggio forgets. And he inevitably figures it out again, because of course he does; and he inevitably chooses to forget again, and again, and again, because his heart is always the same. The story is always the same. Like a tale from under a silverwood tree, like a myth from the days of old, not so much tied by the constraints of the narrative so much as being narrative itself. Antigone must bury her brother. Iphigenia must be put to death. At a thousand turns, in a thousand ways, Orpheus must turn, and he must look, again, and again.
And Olruggio forgets.)
There is an old story about a witch and a silverwood tree.
