So she had asked Edward to come with her to the party. Figuring, well, best case scenario, he’d say no; worst case scenario, he’d rat her out to the guy she was trying to investigate, and she’d be twenty steps back but just maybe with something she could really prove this time.
It hadn’t prepared her for the actual worst-case scenario, which was that he had said yes. Very enthusiastically. He seemed to think it would be great fun, which where the Riddler was concerned only ever meant bad things for Barbara Gordon.

Summary
Tim's dad is dead, killed by a boomerang to the chest, and Tim is an orphan now. He knows Bruce would adopt him if needed but he couldn't possibly impose himself on the Wayne's more than he already has. It's okay though, because he has a plan for this, he just needs someone to play the role of his estranged "Uncle Eddie".
Except... the guy he hires is weirdly concerned about his well being and Tim can't figure out why.
Meanwhile, Jason Todd is forced to reevaluate his plans for his debut as Red Hood, because, as it turns out, his replacement is a suicidal idiot who can't be trusted to stay out of trouble.
OR
Tim Drake fails to recognize Jason Todd, back from the dead, and hires him to be his Uncle Eddie to avoid getting adopted by Batman. Somehow this ruins everyone's plans.

Jason’s honestly surprised he doesn’t get a knife in the gut for that. Tim is wise enough to keep his mouth shut.Wise - Jason decides firmly - but also breathtakingly stupid, because he takes two steps away from the truck and almost falls flat on his face when his injured leg gives out.
Jason catches him, right in time for him to say, “Right. Stab wound. Forgot about that.”Jason sighs, casts his gaze to the sky, and mentally apologizes to Bruce. He’s herding cats here. He and Dick weren’t this bad, were they?
(They were, he knows they were, which just makes this whole fiasco even more annoying.)
