Mikasa looked down at her, observing her with narrowed eyes now. Upon closer examination, Annie’s ears seemed flushed, but her ice-blue eyes appeared sure and steady, the flicker of fire in them caused by the fireplace next to them.
Her chest burned, and she realized, all of a sudden, Annie was affected by Mikasa’s state as much as she was. This knowledge was somehow having Mikasa regain control of herself, despite her front teeth prodding at her bottom lip.
Mikasa attempted to concentrate, her head lowering, and her back curving. One arm reached out, hesitating at first, before she willed herself to move slowly, wrapping it around Annie’s slim waist. One glance out of the dark window, and Mikasa could dazedly decipher the snowflakes falling gentler now. Mikasa took a breath in, attempting to keep herself reigned in.
Her arm pushed, heaving Annie up slightly to position her against Mikasa in a way that didn’t require Mikasa to lean down. It was more efficient that way. She barely noticed the blood rushing to Annie’s pale cheeks now, subtle. Mikasa’s steel eyes flashed, and she exhaled shakily, the natural fresh scent of Annie swirling in the air at close proximity now.

Annie stutters at that, her cheeks burning at the subtle flirting. She doesn’t know if it is intentional or not, but it makes her heart pound regardless. She never knows how to act when pretty girls compliment her.
Mikasa seems to catch onto her fluster if the almost predatory gaze she adorns is anything to go by. “So are you single?”
Annie fumbles over her words again, her brain short circuiting as she turns her cheek, not wanting this girl to see her burning cheeks or how her chest is smoldered with embarrassment.

Despite the cold, Annie couldn't really complain about feeling the biting winds, the uncomfortable shiver, and the deep pain in her bones, too busy laughing and 'dancing' with Mikasa, playing with her friends and watching them fall, or almost bump into a child much more experienced than them.
Everything there seemed like something out of a fairy tale: the children's laughter, the white trees, the comfortable warmth that love left in her heart.
Despite how melancholy and fear can scare us and prevent us from enjoying moments to the fullest, Annie was extremely grateful to be able to experience this with her friends.
