Summary
Why would the local legend of tropical Cinnabar center around a pokémon that lived on an icy mountain, anyway? It couldn’t be true, just didn’t make sense, and Red refused to write anything like that in his pokédex. His frustration only grew as trainers parroted variations of the same story at him over and over. By the time he found himself landing ashore at Cinnabar Island, he was almost entirely fed up with the whole endeavor.
Well, maybe he could stomach asking one more person.
Because there was Blue, posture slouched and lazy, just glancing around outside the pokémon center, loitering like he had nothing better to do.

“Blue!” Daisy yelped in happy surprise when he stalked into the kitchen. She did a double-take, looking between Blue, the front door, and the stairs. “How did you—”
“What,” Blue bit out, stormy and murderous, “is he doing here? In my room?”
“Ah.” Daisy set down her mug of tea, looking a little bit guilty.

“I didn’t kill myself,” Gon says.
Killua jerks his head to give Gon a look. “Don’t joke about that. Come on, I need to know.”
“I really didn’t!” Gon insists. “I don’t know what you’re talking about.”
Killua tugs on Gon’s wrist and they duck into the opening together. Nothing changes; Killua curses internally. He’d been hoping this door would be a portal to some other part of the dream world, but it seems he’d been afforded no such luck. Gon’s eyes glimmer dark in the low light.
Killua stares. “Why are you here, then?”
