    He doesn't answer. He can't possibly answer, can't probe the gulf between what he wants and what's possible. They walk on. Could he mean it? Could he like Gu Yiran that much, enough to build him into his life? And if he did, how much would Gu Yiran give up to have that?

    On the way home they walk close, side by side. Swinging, Zheng Bei's knuckles brush his and send a tingling jolt through him. Once could be an accident, but it happens again, and again. The third time Gu Yiran flexes his fingers against Zheng Bei's, lets them catch and hold for a lingering few seconds before separating. He feels flushed and giddy, knowing Zheng Bei is seeking his touch.
