Summary
The four intruders were standing near each other at the outskirts of the lab. Apart from some minor scuff marks and scratches marring their features, they seemed in decent shape, ready to attack in a moment’s notice. Yet their forms were sloppy. Amateurish. The weapons held by three of the four were stolen from Draxum’s stash, which Leo knew only because he’d originally stolen them in the first place.
Little details that paled in comparison to one glaring thing.

Summary
Being able to make numbers do what he wanted ensured that Clyde was recruited into a bullshit job right out of business school. That didn’t bother him. With enough of the correct kind of education and just the right level of ambition, it was inevitable that he would have a job that didn’t add any particular value to the world. If you rose high enough, you became superfluous. The trick, then, was pretending that you were not a leech on society.
He was a leech, of course, but he worked so fucking hard at it.
Clyde has never been honest with anyone in his life, not even himself. But self-delusion can’t last forever.
