They said the blade entered through his sixth and seventh ribs. They said he bled out at a table in the library; that they thought he was asleep until they saw the blood pooling underneath him. That he’d died with a letter clutched in his fist. They said the lynx had finally fallen.
(It’s best not to believe everything you hear.)
Or: After being stabbed by Lao, Ash is placed into Witness Protection Program, and Eiji spends eighteen months in hell.

Which is why after everything that happened, Ash and Eiji never mentioned running into Shorter's old girlfriend in LA. Not when Shorter died. Certainly not when she shows up back in New York carrying a little piece of their lost friend.
What started as a need to save the child of the friend he couldn't save becomes a story of endings and new beginnings and maybe, finally, the family that Ash deserves.

The chair is cheap and stiff, and makes his butt hurt like hell. He wants to get up and stretch, but he isn’t in the mood to draw attention to himself, because he knows. He knows as soon as his butt leaves that musty fabric Mrs. CPS-worker is gonna be on him, asking if he wants anything.
And oh boy does Ash know what he wants above all else:Dino to die from his (not-so) out of the blue heart attack,
Griffin to miraculously live again,
and a house out in the middle of nowhere where he could live without a care in the world.
Except none of these things are ever going to happen, because he's Ash Lynx; prostitute, murderer, and an absolutely worthless nobody.
In come Max and Jessica, who have already signed the adoption papers.

Maybe Ash and Eiji have much more in common than a surface glance can tell...and that's not necessarily a good thing.
