Summary
The universe is ever-changing. Often, the beliefs of those living in it aren’t. When this incompatibility reaches a breaking point, the result isn’t breakage. It’s… renewal, Regulus thinks. Revival, a reminder that change is inevitable, and if one can’t handle it…
Well. They’ll just have to.
This is the story of the universe Regulus lives in. It is not his, because the universe is indomitable, inviolable and inalienable. His job is simply to let it be. To conserve its principles, and watch as it is once again born out of a heat death, a collapse, a black hole.

Summary
Ginevran gods are immortal. Immortality is considered the greatest blessing: any other opinion is sacrilegious. They are able to entertain themselves endlessly and suffer zero consequences — violence, sex, drugs, alcohol — what more could they want? They can do it all, forever, and never die.
It’s perfection to the highest degree.
And Remus hates it.

Bookmarker's Notes
Nath had been in his last year of graduate school when the Challenger disaster happened. That night, he whispered, "What if this is the end? What if they never send anyone up again?"
In the moonlight, he was monochrome, like the pictures of the astronauts he had spent his childhood poring over. Jack held him close and ran his fingers through his hair, all the while thinking, Please don’t make me lose you like that. All the while knowing, I could never stop you.
—
Jack had loved Nath from afar for so long that he had become accustomed to it as a state of being. Sometimes it overwhelmed him, remembering that now he could look and touch and have. Like grabbing a live wire. It propelled him into the shallows, suddenly desperate for confirmation that he was no longer alone in this.
Nath swam towards him, submerging as he got close. He grabbed Jack around the legs as a pretext to touch. When they resurfaced, Jack laughed and shook the water from his hair, showering Nath in droplets.
—
“I can stay somewhere else while he’s here.”
“No, let him think whatever he wants. I don’t care anyway.”
Jack squeezed his arm and didn’t say anything about the lie, and Nath loved him all the more for it.
Later, James said, “When you were younger, I hoped that you and Jack might become friends.”
Nath froze, waiting for him to say, Is this why you could never get a date? Weren't you different enough already, did you really need this too?
“Are you happy?”
Nath blinked, the question so far from anything he had predicted. He felt his cheeks heat as his father’s eyes flicked to Jack, but he willed himself to not look away. "Yeah, Dad," he said, and his father's face did something complicated, some delicate dance of relief and regret.
"Good," James said, then, like he was realising for the first time that it was true, "That's important."
—
"I can't believe in a month we'll be in California."
Jack sounded happy, but Nath's stomach tightened. This would be the second time Jack uprooted his life for him.
Ever since that summer when he was seven, Nath had tried to reconstruct what had gone wrong. His mother hadn't aspired to the life she led. Loving his father meant losing a part of herself.
He didn’t want that kind of love from Jack, did not want him to lose sight of what might bring him joy.
Jack laughed, sort of... mystified. "Nath, moving doesn't bother me. I want to be where you are."
He nudged Nath's ankle with his foot, saying softly, "We are not our parents."
Jack would lie awake listening to the arguments after his mother got home from the hospital. When his father left, he laid all the blame at the feet of her ambition. Jack knew as well as Nath what it meant to stay.
—
It was a solace to know Lydia hadn’t been alone those last few months as he’d feared, but more than that, he was thankful for this point of connection between them, this one final thing they shared.
"I'm glad she had you," Nath said.
—
“I can tell you’re pissed at me.”
Jack turned to face Nath. “I’m not pissed.”
“What are you then?” Nath asked, continuing to wrestle with the plastic. Jack sighed and crossed over. He batted Nath’s hand away, smoothing the wrap down around his cast.
“It’s not—I’m not mad at you. I just—” He trailed off and looked down. He was still cradling Nath's arm. "You... You got hurt today, and nobody told me.”
He saw in Nath’s face the moment he got it.
Two weeks later, they signed a stack of papers, their names side by side daring anyone to deny what they meant to each other.
—
"When we were growing up, I used to picture space as a way to get away from everything,” Nath says. “Now I just wish she could be here."
He wonders if this will bring him closer to her. If somehow the distance between this world and the next will thin with the atmosphere as he barrels into orbit. In the days leading up to the launch, he has felt it again: the taut, heavy pull of connection, the tie that bound him to Lydia throughout their youth. Except rather than constricting, now it feels grounding, a thread running from his heart to everyone he loves—Jack and Hannah, his parents, the world itself.
He reaches for Jack, wraps his arms around him and presses his face into the crook of his neck. Jack holds onto him just as tight, his hands trembling as he clutches Nath's waist.
“If this is all we get”—he lets out a ragged, shaky breath—“it has been so much more than I could have imagined.” He pulls back to look at Nath, eyes glistening. “But this better not be all we get, okay?”
It strikes Nath then, this thing he loves so much about Jack. In all their time together, he has never said, Don't leave. Only ever, Please come back.

Summary
bill denbrough is a moron. like, he’s not stupid stupid — well, he is, he’s a little stupid — but god, is he an idiot. bill’s the kind of guy to hear the waiter say careful, it’s hot, and take a big, scalding bite anyway; the kind of guy who searches his entire house from top to bottom looking for a pair of jorts only to find he’s been wearing them the whole time (and, obviously, the kind of guy to own jorts in the first place). bill’s the kind of guy who throws his entire body weight into pushing on a pull door, bounces off with a confused “oh!”, and then pushes it again, like it might work the second time.
(it’s okay, he always gets it by the third.)

Summary
“Well … no,” Remus deflates and rubs his eyes, “I don’t know what to do. I needed those credits to finish the year. Otherwise, I have to do it all over again. Please, is there any way I can make it up?”
McGonagall’s stern expression slowly wavers, melting into something softer and more sympathetic. “Let’s have a look,” she sighs, “How does this sound … Advanced Mandarin?”
“Advanced?” Remus croaks. McGonagall takes one look at him and moves to the next option.
“International Business.”
“Please, no.”
“Postcolonial Legacies in the Middle East.”
“Yes! Perfect.”
“Ah, that one seems to be full,” McGonagall winces and gives him an apologetic look when Remus’ face falls. “Well, if not a course … you could make up for it with an extracurricular activity,” she suggests.
“What does that mean?” He asks, and then it hits him, “Like, sports?!”
“Like sports,” McGonagall confirms, “I’ve been made aware that the cricket team is looking for a player. There’s a spot open.”
“Oh no, I don’t really … do sports."

Bookmarker's Notes
“Your mind is such a bleak place, it’s fascinating, Remus,” Mary remarks, looking at him with curiosity.
—
Remus doesn’t remember what exactly James kept saying, but he remembers the soft, rumbling depth of his voice. He could’ve been reciting The Communist Manifesto and Remus would’ve probably still found it reassuring.
