Summary
Soap watched with aching, unsleeping eyes as the room heaved with the steady rise and fall of his sleeping lieutenant’s chest. His body screamed for sleep but his mind was too alight with whirling thoughts, playing the events of the evening over and over again like a new favorite song. Words set in the wax of his memory and Soap grieved that they would only ever fade. He fought the urge to wake Ghost, to tear himself away from his lieutenant’s simian grasp and shake him by the shoulders and demand him to say it all again, selfishly, so he could know if it was all true. The past could be fabricated, memories falsified.
The present was all he had. He clung to it like a starving man.

Langa had never been to New York or even the United States his whole life, but when Langa dreamed, he knew everything. What street he was on, who owned what building, even where suspicious-looking back alleys led to. He knew everything except who he was. The only hint he got about his dreamed identity was a name. Finally, something dawns on him, a way to handle two goals simultaneously. He’d seen Hollander’s mother flipping through papers rapidly when they first got here, seeming calm and in control and more than a little frightening in a way that made Ilya mildly glad he wasn’t one of the people responsible for a clipboard. If anyone can tell him if the long list of “Prohibited Items” he’d been sent in his email a few days ago is just standard practice for big shoots, it would be Yuna Hollander.
Or, hopefully, her son.
“Crazy we cannot even have peanut butter, eh?” He asks. “You also got giant list?”
Hollander stiffens, almost imperceptibly, and Ilya tilts his head, just slightly, confused, wondering if he’s stumbled somewhere unexpected.

Summary
Shane breathes in deep, a contented little sigh, and then pauses for another long time. Just slightly tensed, like he’s preparing himself for something, but Ilya doesn’t really have the chance to worry before he says, “I had…a good time tonight.”
“Mm, was good night,” Ilya murmurs. Kisses hair, kisses eyebrow. “Nice dinner, nice weather.”
“Yeah, it was nice,” Shane murmurs. He sighs, clears his throat. “Thank you for such a nice first date.”
Ilya mouths first date to himself, mind running to figure out what that could mean in this context.
Then Shane shifts and says, “I wasn’t sure what to expect when you asked me out.”
Ah.Shane decides to play a game. Ilya is exactly where he wants to be.
