He has just gotten her back, yet he is here lying on the ground, rain pelting his blood-covered skin. So’lek blinks rapidly, for he cannot seem to keep his eyes open. Tamtey is the last thought on his mind as he drifts into unconsciousness.
An alternate ending to the From The Ashes DLC. This takes place after Tamtey is saved by So’lek and after So’lek’s fight with Wukula. This is based on canon lore and storytelling, but I added my own thoughts and twists into how I wish/thought it should have been.

Thorin stepped closer, his shadow engulfing the smaller man. "Since when have you cared so much about them?!"The words hung in the air, sharp and unretractable.
Bilbo didn't flinch. He didn't recoil from the King’s wrath. Instead, his face set into a mask of fierce, maternal indignation. He stepped forward, poking a finger directly into the center of Thorin’s fur-lined tunic.
"Since they started calling me 'Uncle' too!" Bilbo yelled back, his voice echoing with a finality that silenced the room.

Summary
The biology of a Hobbit was a finely tuned instrument of comfort, designed by generations of peace and the steady rhythm of the Four Farthings. Among their many quirks, the leathered soles of their feet, the ability to move with supernatural silence, and the requirement of seven meals a day,was an instinct rarely seen by outsiders: the Nesting.
In the Shire, Nesting was a seasonal affair. When the first frost kissed the pumpkins in the fields, every Hobbit hole from Michel Delving to Buckland became a flurry of activity. Rugs were layered, wool was carded, and pillows were stacked until a Hobbit could dive into their bed and not be seen for three days.
But Nesting wasn't just for the cold. It was for the hurt. It was for the frightened.

He gestured toward Bilbo. "Bilbo has lived with Dwarves, eaten Dwarven food, and breathed the air of the forge for three years. His body is simply 'correcting' itself to fit his social reality. He is becoming more Dwarven because his heart has decided this is where he belongs."

"But your name is Bilbo," Dwalin stated, as if he were correcting a child on the color of the sky. "We have the contract. We have the letters. It says 'Bilbo Baggins'."
"That," Bilbo said, turning to face them with a look of profound exhaustion, "is my nickname. My 'Short Name.' Most Hobbits outside the Shire, and quite a few inside it, use nicknames. They’re easier to say, they’re less stuffy, and they don't require three breaths to finish."
The Dwarves crowded around the market table, ignoring the startled looks of the local Hobbits.
"If Bilbo is the nickname," Fili asked, his eyes dancing with delight, "then what is the real one?

Summary
The journey to Erebor was a grueling affair, marked by blisters, rain, and the constant threat of being eaten. But for Bilbo Baggins, the greatest challenge wasn't the Orcs, it was the sheer logistical nightmare of being a Hobbit in a company of Dwarves who knew absolutely nothing about Hobbit physiology.
Most folk in Middle-earth knew that Hobbits had large, hairy feet. Some knew they had a penchant for seven meals a day. But very few knew about the ears, and almost no one outside the Shire knew about the tails.

“No! Bilbo, stay….stay with me, stay focused on my voice.” Thorin said desperately, saying the words he’d heard healers say whenever a patient under their care was close to dying and they struggling to save them.
Bilbo tapped his hand, stroking it, or trying to, merely covering Thorin with blood.
“Don’t…worry. Everything….will be alright.” Bilbo's breath was coming in short stuttering gasps. “You’ll…be alright, I’ll be…alright. Kili…and Fili…it will all work well.”
When Bilbo jumps in front of Azog's sword to save Thorin, Thorin thinks the hobbit is lost to him. Little does he know that hobbits have a form of hibernation, called Winter Sleep, that can be triggered when they are severely injured.

Everyone, by a stroke of real luck, survived the Battle of Five Armies. Bilbo helps to rebuild Erebor, while waiting for Thorin to recover from his wounds. Hobbit help is, it seems, just what the dwarves need: after all, hobbits know better than any how to make a place into a home.
And when Thorin finally wakes up, there's a surprise waiting for Bilbo.

Bilbo is an only child. He has never fallen in love, he has never made any particularly close friends, and most of his family still thinks he spends too much time in the woods to be worthy of the Baggins name. Even now, he is the only hobbit in a fellowship full of dwarves he can’t quite make heads nor tails of.
Fortunately, the dwarves also do not know what it means to be a Baggins; they only know what it means to be a Company. And, perhaps, that is exactly the thing they need to be.
