She can't bear it alone anymore, it presses against her throat and seeps into her chest. She needs something, anything, to shatter it.
But when she invites him in, he enters and there is suddenly no doubt that he is real. Nikolai smiles, both an apology and a question.
Zoya nods and takes her first real breath of the day.
