    The Master Sword didn’t hum for him anymore. Not really.

    In the quiet moments of the trek through Faron Woods, Wild adjusted his grip on the hilt. Underneath the leather wraps of his gloves, his palms were a mess of weeping blisters and silver-white scarring. It was a rhythmic, searing heat that pulsed in time with his heartbeat. To Wild, it was a constant reminder that the Shrine of Resurrection had brought back the man, but perhaps left the hero behind.

    He didn’t hate the sword for it. He figured the blade was just being honest. He wasn’t “hero” enough, and the fire was just the forge trying to reshape him. Fix him.

    After having his cells literally rebuilt by the Shrine of Resurection, the Master Sword no longer recognizes Wild, burning him whenever he uses it. The Chain find out and a failed attempt at comfort ensues.

    Wild smiled, glancing up at Time to simply sign ‘soup.’
    The Old Man relayed it to Wind, who crossed his arms. “I bet it won’t be as good as my grandma’s.” Uh oh, those were fighting words.
    Luckily, Wild didn’t have to move a muscle as Four tackled the Sailor from behind.

    The Chain has to learn how to get along with their new, mute member: Wild. And when Wild gets himself into a situation, the others learn a little something about communication.

    Several Links take the L in rapid succession, in celebration of Whumptober 2022. Set vaguely in the Linked Universe AU, but doesn't comply with LU canon. General CWs: blood, injury, unconsciousness, poison/illness, exhaustion, violence, body horror. Warnings in the chapter summaries are in addition to the general warnings. No actual permanent MCD but some temporary or perceived MCD. No torture.

    Whumpiness varies by chapter. E.g.:
    - Small oof (angst + fluff/humour/comfort): 1, 3, 5, 12, 13
    - Medium oof (bittersweet, partial resolution): 2, 4, 6, 7, 11
    - Big oof (hurt no comfort/insufficient comfort): 8, 9, 10, 14
    - Comfort (resolution drabbles for previous chapters): 15.
