It was as if she was stuck in a bad dream. Her family congregating on the tar mac of that airfield. The battle that ensued. Seeing him. Again.
She never would admit it. Not to Clint, nor Steve. The things she knew and witnessed by his own hands. It wasn’t something she discussed openly, her past in The Red Room. Sure, they knew. Knew that she was raised there. Knew of the trials, training and torture. The way that it had shaped her mind, body, and soul. Clint had seen it, the girl that came from their ranks. Saved her, reminded her of her worth even, but they still didn’t know everything.
She never talked about the nightmares. Memories of her life before SHIELD, before Clint and Phil, before The Avengers. They wouldn’t understand anyway.
