The kid’s voice finally breaks open, raw and wet and scared. It strikes Roy’s core deeper than any bullet. Any knife.

Ed’s glare comes down on him fiercely. Roy is about to earn it.

Roy thought he already reached breaking point. He was wrong.
“Then kill me instead!”
The world stops. The bastard holding Edward cocks his head in Roy’s direction, his grip on the gun and the trigger notwithstanding.
“What?”
“Kill me and take the Fullmetal Alchemist instead.”
Roy will do whatever it takes to keep Edward alive.

It's not really a great sign that he doesn't notice.
Especially considering it makes him stumble into the manor's dining room and interrupt their family dinner in full Red Hood gear, at which point everyone else definitely does.

Despite himself, Dick’s lips twitch. “Gouda?”
The kid scrunches his nose. “Swiss, you imbecile. Gouda is Dutch. I was thinking Appenzeller for the moon.”
“Isn’t that a dog?”
_________________Dick had a total of four conversations with Bruce’s new kid, when Jason Todd appears on his doorsteps and demands a sleepover. What follows, is the most emotionally tumultuous night of Dick’s life, a lot of card games, good food, and the realization that maybe being a brother isn’t as bad as Dick thought it would be.
