Unfortunately, with the end of the night came the end of new information, and everyone’s hopes were crushed to ashes. Lord Moriarty would deny any friendship with the eldest Holmes, evading questions about the mysterious man with skillful ease, using his charm and wealth to divert both ladies and gentlemen. Nevertheless, as always, when the answers to their questions aren’t what people hope for, nobles take the right to fabricate and create with eager hands and bigger mouths, whispering lies and creating facts to kill the boredom that dominates their miserable lives.

And entirely Sherlock’s fault for letting him do that.
He had handed this man the leash and practically begged to be walked.
On principle, he loosened his collar. Then immediately regretted it—it could be read as flushed, excited, submissive.
Absolutely not.
Hands went straight into his pockets.
He would rather look like a petulant child than a man publicly undone by the brush of a fingertip.
And still… he followed William. Like a lovesick duckling in a cravat.
Now he was watching him.

Sherlock smiled, and William drew his hand a little closer until Sherlock almost had to take a step forward. He did it without resisting. After the past few weeks, he had no reason to pull away from any movement that brought him nearer to William. His free hand lifted to William’s sleeve, found only fabric there, warm from him, and stayed.
William’s gaze rested on him, calm, attentive, with that fine seriousness that made evasion difficult for Sherlock.
„And that’s why you climbed through my window. Because you wanted to remind me that my breakfast egg nearly wiped you from the face of the earth.“
„Among other things.“
