Summary
“There are no illusions here,” Emmrich told her. He was halfway down the braid now, fingers weaving soothingly through her hair. “Not between us, my dearest one.”
Shirin let him finish the braid in silence, though words, kept back, thrummed in the tension of her shoulders.
“I’m just tired of it, y’know?” she asked, seeming to speak more to her reflection than to him. Anger crackled under her quiet. “Cleaning up the so-called gods’ mistakes, seeing innocent people pay for those mistakes over and over again.”
Or: Emmrich imagines a future for himself and Rook, and Rook tries to imagine that future too.

“Don't go,” Emmrich says quietly. Rook freezes as he tries to roll over, to get out and back into his clothes and back to the meditation room where he'll curl up on that horrid lounge with an old pillow and a beautiful, hand-stitched blanket Varric had bought him in Perendale. He'd never asked for more because he won't get it.
Rook considers love and staying over for once.

Vorgoth had gone with Rook at 17 to the apothecary in Nevarra City where a healer had shrugged and told him it was easy and lots of Nevarrans did it. But it was permanent, she'd said with a look at him.
That's the point, he'd said.
Rook and Emmrich have an overdue conversation, but they're Nevarran. It takes at least a bowl of potato soup, several pomegranates, and Emmrich's calculations in front of Rook before he's willing to see it.Expanded conversation around the soft-lock romance commitment, including a more detailed conversation on gender and transition for Rook. TW: Dysphoria is never explicitly named, but Rook's thoughts and feelings are occasionally dysphoric.

Summary
There was no ceremony, only Emmrich raising his staff and one hand tracing a sigil in the air. Between the two the air solidified, took shape, and became a sphere of fire and incandescence. The center of it gleamed whitely, shading through yellow and orange and back to blue in the corona so it was as if Emmrich had the sun cupped in his palms, the only true piece of light in this place.
Or: Emmrich has a rough day. Rook decides to comfort him and they end up comforting each other. As is to be expected.
