Against Amber's wishes, Lohen answered for her, "It's actually a new weapon, dearest Outrider! Here, have a look!"
"Careful!" Albedo immediately cut in, his hands hovering in front of him in slight alarm as Lohen offered Amber the gun, "That still has three rounds of ammunition inside. Do not pull the trigger."
Lohen raised an eyebrow at that, "Why do you have four bullets loaded?"
"Just in case we miss your head the first three times," Kaeya replied, all smiles as he crossed his arms against his chest.
"I am not holding that," Amber said, cautiously eyeing the offered weapon, "Please hold that properly, Lohen."
How Albedo created the revolver, and how his day went to shit after that. He's going to ban Lohen from even looking in his direction after this whole thing is over.

Summary
He was no different to them, Kojiro’s plethora of mindless flings.
Kaoru wishes it could be just as mindless for him.
Because as he watches, his mind only goes into overdrive. He wonders why he was no different, what with their history and their closeness. He thinks he deserves to be for those very reasons.
And at the very least, if he was on the same playing field as these women, why wasn’t he ever flaunted around like arm candy?
Kaoru has never been able to shut his mind off, and he's jealous of the girls on Kojiro's arms. Combining these two desires, he tries becoming the pretty little thing he thinks Joe would want.

"My palate works just fine," said Kojiro with a frown. "We can't all be blessed with a stupid sensitive palate."
"It's called being a supertaster, and you're just jealous that you're not one," Kaoru continued to tease, even as he lifted a hand to lick a stray droplet of sauce left over from the last crostini Kojiro made him try. He didn't miss the way Kojiro's eyes followed his hand, nor the way he visibly swallowed as Kaoru flicked his tongue along the tip of his finger.
Kojiro cleared his throat and shifted his gaze back down at the cheese he's slicing. "And be as picky as you? Yeah, it's got its perks, but I'll live without, thanks."
They've been tittering over the edge of something for years now, but nowadays, in the aftermath of everything that happened, it felt as though Kaoru could see what the fall would look like more clearly. It didn't look as scary as it used to be.

Summary
“Don’t be such a grouch,” Ainosuke admonished as they walked through the farmer’s market, clearly out of place. Though Kaoru had to begrudgingly admit they would have stood out regardless of their clothing; Ainosuke had a habit of attracting attention wherever he went.
And at least the people gave pleasant little smiles and nods as they walked by rather than the slight sneers and side-eyed glances they might receive elsewhere. Though these people were trying to make a sale, so Kaoru wasn’t totally naive to their ulterior motives.
“Besides, what do you have against organically grown produce?” Ainosuke asked. “Or, you know, artisan breads or goat milk soap or…well, that guy over there is selling authentic country-style beefcake, by the look of it.”
Ainosuke drags Kaoru to some one-horse town in the middle of nowhere for some R&R. Kaoru planned on sleeping, a lot of boredom, and maybe getting caught up on work behind Ainosuke’s back.
He did not plan on a hot farm boy with bulging muscles, a lopsided grin, and mouthwatering, farm-fresh…eggplant.

Joe heard the front door chime to Sia la luce and tried to control his smile as he toweled off his hands and made his way to the front. It wouldn’t do to actually look a bit happy to see Cherry; no way, that would upset the routine.
“I didn’t realize it was that late, already wine-mooching time—” Joe teased as he came around the corner, brought up short.
Cherry stood ramrod straight, tension radiating off of him. Golden eyes too wide, and ghastly pale (even for him).
“Kaoru?” Joe asked carefully, already moving around the counter. “Are you okay? What’s wrong?”
Cherry lifted his arm, holding a…weird-ass basket? A big one? Were they going on a picnic? No, that wasn’t really a basket it was—well, not that Joe was particularly familiar with these things but once he saw it, he couldn’t see it as anything else.
But a bassinet.
“Kojiro,” Cherry said, voice painfully tight. “What is this?”

Sure, Kojiro had been heartbroken, had taken over a year to right himself again, get back into a routine, forget a time when he could wake up with a warm body in his arms that clung to him just as tightly. But, in the end, he knew Kaoru was right.
Because he’d seen him do the exact thing Kojiro was doing now.
Scrolling through old photos of him and Adam, sometimes the three of them but usually not, of stolen kisses and tight hugs and videos of them skating and falling and picking each other back up, their laughs echoing in the quiet room; only Kojiro heard it, Kaoru fast asleep in the crook of Kojiro’s arm as the video replayed, over and over like a broken record.

Summary
Years have passed since Kaoru has allowed himself to experience a proper heat. In his desperation to keep his life in order, he takes suppressants to avoid the inconvenience altogether. Kojiro, concerned by the dangerous degree in which he takes them, suggests that he let his heat happen.

I was borne via a homunculi myself," Kaeya hummed with all of the disinterest brought on the conversation, looking down as he slowly swirled the wine in his glass.
Albedo's eyes narrowed at what he was sure was supposed to be an insult, but Kaeya always knew how to poke at his pride. "I think you'll find me designed far different from your expectations of homunculi."

Pacing the hotel room, Kaoru took deep breaths, trying to slow his pounding heart and calm the adrenaline racing through him.
The job had gone off without a hitch, everything went perfectly according to plan—the image of the reticle was fresh in his mind, Kaoru still saw it stark and clear every time he closed his eyes.
The hit. His last hit. He bit his lips to keep from smiling, even though no one else was in the room to see him. This was it! He was finally getting out!
The loud knock nearly startled him out of his skin and he rolled his eyes at himself as he strode over to impatiently open the door.
And standing on the other side was the last person in the entire world he ever expected to see.
“Kojiro?” Kaoru asked, mind racing as he stared at that familiar-yet-not face. Of the million questions he should ask, all that came out of his mouth was, “You’re my transporter?”
“No,” Kojiro said. “I’m supposed to kill you.”
Betrayed after the final hit of his career, Kaoru's only hope at survival is teaming up with the man sent to kill him - the best friend who thought he died 12 years ago.
