Summary
I think a lot of the characters in Harry Potter are quite tragic.
Tom Riddle, Severus Snape, Albus Dumbledore, Sirius Black, Regulus Black
They are all deeply flawed and human. I wrote this thinking about them and what it is to be human.
Whether, in some way, shape or form, may of us have created 'horcruxes'.Parts of our soul that could not stand the test of time, and were cut out or lost because they weren't needed, or simply could not stay.
This work is a bit of a ramble, but it reminds me of these characters, who had to recreate themselves out of fear or necessity.

Then the woman across from him orders something that is frankly an affront to civilised beverage culture, and has the audacity to offer him a sip.

Lucius had moved around the table to stand beside his bouncing grandson and peruse the colourful images with a view so serious, Narcissa had to stifle a laugh.
“Now, let’s see here.” Lucius started, arranging the parchment so that he could see all the drawings at once. There were nearly twenty.
“My, my, my, these are some of the most incredible works I’ve ever laid eyes on. Narcissa, have you seen these?” he asked, “Our grandson must be the greatest artist of his generation—every generation in fact!”
Scorpius gazed up at his grandfather with a look of pure adoration.
“Really?!!” He squealed excitedly.
“Certainly.” Lucius replied, “In fact, it is so wonderful that I believe I should like to mount it on the wall of my study, permanently. What do you think, Scorpius?”

Summary
After Remus disappears after Sirius is imprisoned, Severus is left to pick up the pieces of their relationship. He didn't know that Remus left behind more than a broken heart. It's difficult enough being a single parent. It's even harder when the baby is a Werewolf who transforms every full moon. By the time his child is starting their Third year, he likes to think he's got a handle on things.
Until Remus gets hired that same year.
