"I guess you leave me no choice."
Darry grabbed his ankles and yanked, and that sure woke him up. With a yelp, Pony scrambled for his bed frame and latched onto it like a lifeline. "Jeez, Darry, quit it! You're bein' nuts!"
Darry kept pulling him, looking damn near close to wrestling him off of the mattress. "Hey, I asked nicely! Ain't my fault you won't listen!"
"You haven't asked nice for nothin' a day in your life! Cut it out!"
"Yeah, cause you're challengin' my authority!" With one final pull, Darry yanked him right off the bed like he weighed as much as a feather. Pony scrambled, feeling oddly similar to a small animal as Darry shook him by his ankles and held him upside down. "You keep this up and I'm groundin' you on the spot."
"You can't do that!"
"Who says I can't? I'm in charge and whatever I say goes. You wanna start gettin' ready for school, or do you wanna be grounded for a month?"
Or: Pony refuses to get up for school. Darry makes him. Tears and comfort ensue shortly after.

Summary
A few weeks after Bob Sheldon, Johnny Cade, and Dallas Winston die, they make an unexpected return. Ponyboy is the only one who can see them, and for some reason, they're stuck to him, unable to move on.
As Pony tries to hide this from the living people in his life, things become a lot direr when it becomes clear that these three ghosts aren't the only entities that Pony's unstable grief has manifested.
