As far as punishments go, rebirthing a once terminally ill man - whose obsession with human perfection drove him to almost end humanity - in a hospital bed in palliative care could be seen as a little on the nose. To make it the same one he woke up in all those months-years-a lifetime ago, especially so. But Viktor can’t help feeling it’s far better than he deserves.
Viktor emerges from the Arcane, alone. He’s not sure he can navigate a world that doesn’t have Jayce Talis in it.

Summary
What has Viktor done to deserve this? At what point did Jayce come to value him so highly? Somehow, this bond of theirs grew so gradually, so subtly, escaping Viktor’s notice as it entwined itself into every facet of their lives, strangling all else with its roots until only its verdant bloom remained.
“Let me go, Jayce.”
The grip on him tightens. “I won’t.”
No. He’s made that quite clear. Viktor lacks the strength to shake him off; if he tried, Jayce would surely release him, but to rob Jayce of his sole source of comfort would not be right, nor good, and so Viktor waits. A minute passes, then two, then four.
The rune swallows them up, and abandons them in an unfamiliar land. Is this not what they wanted? With naught but the clothes on their backs, they are left to wander. To wonder.

Summary
There was a saying: the more that topside changed, the more the undercity stayed the same. And Viktor, who walks with a crutch and a brace in the Talis house colors and wears a uniform made from cloth that costs more than what a hundred workers in the mines could ever make in a year, has never been able to mask what he knows everyone sees everyday—a Zaunite. He always belonged to the place that kills the flowers. It doesn't matter that he’s stayed in Piltover longer than he has ever lived in the undercity. He was Viktor from Zaun then, and he remains Viktor from Zaun now, looking up at the last traces of light spilling from the skies that kissed Piltover.

“You really believe it’s me?” He couldn’t keep the hope out of his voice, like this arrangement was now permanent.
“We study the intersection of science and magic together for a living, why shouldn’t you be Jayce Talis?”
Jayce gets sent back and promises not to fail, but he arrives at the wrong moment in time. He ends up in the academy and runs into Viktor, who is just three years into their tenure working together. Who could blame him for breaking down? Or, s2 Jayce meets s1 Viktor and they both do some soul-baring.

Viktor raises his glass in a gesture of a toast towards Jayce and Jayce simply nods in response. A smile flickers across Viktor’s face and Jayce winces as if he’s been whipped though it’s not painful, it’s just—sudden. It's—different. Men with such faces terrify me, Jayce thinks. His heart races wildly and he is sure he has just discovered a new feeling all together.
Jayce Talis is disillusioned and disheartened. He works a government job he hates, he hangs out with people he doesn’t like—beats being alone, though. Jayce is real bad at being alone since he returned from the frontlines with a broken leg and a broken mind. So, he much prefers drinking himself into oblivion most nights. He meets Viktor at the bar he frequents and Viktor pulls Jayce along with his charm and strange stories and Jayce wants nothing more than to hand himself over.

Meanwhile Viktor, twenty-two years old, figures that hey, as long as he can research magic, this isn’t too bad of a predicament.
Or: Post-Season 2 Jayce and Season 1 Viktor, the grief of having lost your soulmate while having to look at his younger version who doesn’t even know you, the endless exhaustion of being a second-hand love and also science.
