Rin stumbled through the field of steel, her boots crunching on scorched earth. The vibration felt real beneath her feet. The crunch echoed in her ears. "It's just a memory." She whispered against the wind. "It's just a nightmare. It isn't real." She was a Mage. She was very well aware that it was a dream.
But then she saw him. A splash of crimson against the horizon. He was standing several yards away, his back to her. That red shroud—the tail of it fluttered behind him in a breeze she couldn't feel. He stood perfectly still, a solitary guardian guarding a kingdom of nothingness.
Rin stopped, her breath catching in her throat. Her chest ached with a sudden confusing stab of grief.
"What are you doing here, Rin?"
His voice hit her—deep. Weary. It was laced with a familiarity that sent her heart racing. He didn't turn around. He didn't move. He simply existed.
Rin Tohsaka started dreaming on her twenty second birthday. Archer was long gone. And yet...she dreamed of him. She dreamed of him in a world of unlimited blades. And then she sees him in the real world. But it's not him. Is it?
