“Are you sure you have the right person?” he asked, mouth gaping. “Kaveh Paradisaea?”
“Yes, sir. Did you not apply for the position of secretary here at the Akademiya?”
“I did.” He cleared his throat. “Yes, I did, my apologies. I wasn’t under the impression that my interview had gone that well.”
“Mr Alhaitham was impressed by your honesty, directness, and succinctness,” the cheery voice replied. “He said this was exactly what he was looking for.”

Summary
Overwhelmed by the sensation of Alhaitham’s breath against his skin, heart beating erratically, Kaveh grunted softly and tried to step over the fallen bucket - but the movement only pushed them closer, tangling their legs and trapping Alhaitham’s thigh firmly between his own.
“You’re not going to make it any bigger by squirming,” Alhaitham hissed, hand clamping down on Kaveh’s waist and holding him in place with a grip that had turned to steel.
Kaveh sucked in a sharp breath at the sudden pressure, his body reacting before his brain could catch up and sending a jolt of heat flaring beneath his skin. “I - gods, would you just -”
“Shh,” Alhaitham interrupted harshly.
“No, you shh,” Kaveh shot back in a whisper, bapping Alhaitham petulantly on the arm. “I think I can move my leg, just -”
Alhaitham exhaled a quick, frustrated huff and twisted his torso just enough to be able to slide one palm up from Kaveh’s side, tracing a distractingly firm line along his body before landing squarely over his mouth. “Shut up,” Alhaitham whispered directly into his ear, lips brushing just close enough to make the words feel like a threat.

“I’m surprised that the highly knowledgable Ex-Grand Sage can’t read and understand my offered services.” He looked at the old man lounging on the wide chair; his posture like a king who can never be dethroned.
Azar snarled at his jab, and Kaveh sighed, “I do not target high-positioned individuals, and if you haven’t heard the news from all your self-wallowing, Grand Sage Al Haitham is one of those people I don’t dare to strike my blade with.”
(or Kaveh was hired to assassinate Grand Sage Al Haitham during the celebratory party of the successful coup in Sumeru. There's fighting, pining, and an awful lot of Al Haitham simping because what's new?)
