Summary
The Organization happens across a world that contains multitudes: worlds within the world, or at least weird spatial anomalies that lead to weird places. It's hearts on hearts all the way down, and it seems like a good place to corrupt.
Fortunately, they have a new member who can help them find their way around.
Unfortunately, the Organization are not the only ones seeking to reap the spoils of this world, and their new member keeps going into fugue-states and talking (screaming?) about someone called the Hanged King.

Summary
Reconstruction isn't just about brick and mortar, and buildings aren't the only things that need to be shored up. Rebuilding a life means discarding the past while salvaging its least-broken pieces. Aeleus finds someone who's thrown everything away in their pursuit of rehabilitation. He holds onto the important things for a while.
Alternatively: Aeleus is repeatedly introduced to a stray human. He is extremely patient while they put their pieces back together.

It's been doomed for centuries; and nobody is more aware of this than a man whose entire existence depends on such an inevitable fate. Unfortunately, Xigbar's always been awful with taking orders, and waiting around to die has always been boring as hell. With only a few hours to midnight on the Doomsday clock, Xigbar hedges his bets with the most confounding companion he can think of, just to take the edge off. Or, make it substantially worse.
