Annabeth Chase knows the corridors of the University better than she knows her own reflection; stone and silence have always been her companions, ink and paper her confidants.
She does not expect to be startled in places so familiar.
Yet there he is — the boy from the garden, the stranger who returned her book, the smile that had lingered in her thoughts longer than it ought to.
She tells herself it is nothing, and still she notices the curve of his grin, the warmth of his voice, the way recognition lights his features as if she were someone worth remembering.
Or,
Percy Jackson has crossed oceans and continents, a voyager who thought he had seen all the wonders the world could offer — but he never expected Annabeth Chase, nor the way she makes the familiar feel entirely new.

His head was spinning, and from where he stood, it seemed that hers was doing the very same thing — spiraling down, perhaps, instead of in the same place as his own brain did without a sense of direction. Elphaba seemed a little bit alarmed with herself, with her own actions and thoughts.
“I can’t— Oz, Fiyero,” she sighed, closing her eyes and breathing in. “Have you seen yourself?”
Or,
Fiyero is the sexiest man alive, and Elphaba is having a hard time keeping her hands off of him.
Good thing, though, that he doesn't want her hands away.

“I don’t— I don’t want to talk about it, Percy,” she said.
The words sounded wrong the moment they left her mouth. Percy blinked, and confusion crossed his face first before concern deepened into something softer and more alarmed.
“Since when you don’t want to talk about something with me?”
Something inside her snapped painfully at the question he asked, for reasons she wasn’t quite sure she understood. She was hurting and very irritable and she was on the verge of tears for so, so long now.
“Since it’s your fault!” she snapped, her voice more defeated than loud.

Annabeth’s plan for the evening was simple: survive Sally's movie premiere, avoid thinking too hard about Percy, and absolutely do not cry in formalwear.
She fails spectacularly at all three.

In the depths of a forest long forgotten and deemed enchanted, a witch hides from sight, from life and from time itself. Annabeth aids creatures in need and, on a fated afternoon, she invited inside her cottage a campire; a long-dead creature with just an echo of life and a cry for help on his lips.
It is quite alright. Simply another creature to be nursed, to be helped, to be sent away; just another day from which she would move on.
But old hearts and old times might just recognize each other, and curiosity is forever the reason why the world evolves.
Two lifeless creatures, in the end, perhaps shall learn what becomes of lives eternal.
