Ace had to keep good on his promise to Luffy. He couldn't go after Blackbeard and throw his life away when the only brother he had left was counting on him living. That meant Blackbeard would roam free and Ace wasn't going to stop him. As much as it hurt to let Thatch's death go, he knew if he died too it would hurt Luffy even more.

Bon Clay once said, "Queers never die." Alice never thought much about that statement, because in the real world, death is permanent, right? Well... it should be, at least. Normally, death by drowning doesn't involve falling through the sky directly on top of a corrupt Marine captain's oversized ego. ...Well, then again, being both bisexual and trans is atypical, but Alice already has that going for her. So maybe there's some truth in Bon Clay's statement after all!
