Summary
[NON-FICTION FANWORK] Dungeon Meshi is full of vivid and complex world-building. When you take all the information in the manga as a whole, there are clear and consistent patterns in what real world cultures the author was inspired by, and how she arranges them on the Dungeon Meshi world map.
In this essay, I will catalog and explain every real world cultural reference I was able to identify in the manga, including character and location names, historical and mythological references, clothing, and of course food!
WARNING: This essay is full of spoilers for the entire Dungeon Meshi manga, all the extra materials, and the anime. Disturbing and violent moments that happen in the series are described, discussed and analyzed. The essay also discusses real-life world history and mythology, which contains sensitive subjects like war, death, slavery, abortion, child killing, sexual assault, incest, and bestiality. These topics are mentioned in an academic context, and not described. Please proceed with caution if this concerns you.

Summary
"...Noriaki... I'm twenty eight. You-- you died back in Egypt." This time, Jotaro's hands came up to grab Kakyoin's, but didn't let go. He gave them a soft squeeze.
Kakyoin's heart dropped into his stomach. "What..?" He let out a soft laugh in almost disbelief. But as he searched Jotaro's eyes, he saw nothing but complete and utter seriousness. "No..? I moved with you to America, after I recovered-- we... We're going to college together, well-- not right now, it's summer-- we work together--" Kakyoin gasped sharply, jerking his hands away and out from Jotaro's hold. "The stand user!"Where one thing leads to another, and all of a sudden 19-year-old Noriaki Kakyoin is transported to a Kakyoin-Is-Dead universe. He tries his hardest to juggle with an older, different Jotaro & his emotional baggage, along with getting home to his own universe.
It's a hell in itself, really.

Summary
"Picture Jotaro, but only 165 centimeters tall," says Kakyoin. That gets a reluctant giggle out of Polnareff. Of course. Of course Kakyoin's method of cheering him up would be to make fun of Jotaro. "But still super buff. You Jojos and your age-inappropriate buffness, my God."
Joseph puffs up his chest. "Hohoho, I'm so glad you noticed. You know, Jotaro got tall before he got muscley," he says. Oh, no.
"Please tell me there is photographic evidence of this," Polnareff says. Oh, no.
