Summary
Gimli and Legolas, in love with each other but both convinced that their feelings are not reciprocated, get married in order to provide the foundations for an alliance between Erebor and Mirkwood (now Eryn Lasgalen).
Their marriage, much too happy for a marriage of convenience, will have to face a Very Big Misunderstanding that, after leading to a comedy of errors that was not originally planned to be part of this, might help them to clear things between the two of them, after all.

Summary
When Gimli is but a child, he gets lost in the mines of Ered Luin. It is dark, and it is cold, and he is alone.
He will never recover.
With his shaking hands and his Stonefear Gimli cannot perform as well as he wished, as a Dwarf. He can't go on a Quest to reclaim Erebor. He can't go on a Quest to reclaim Khazad-dûm.
He can, however, force his way into the Quest to save all of Middle-Earth.
There he meets Legolas, who reminds him too much of his friend Ori, in many ways.

This tale chronicles the journey of the Fellowship as they make for the Mines of Moria and will conclude shortly after the confrontation with the Balrog. Summary
Life after war has much more politics than Gimli thought, and much less Legolas than he would like, but the latter he knows (or believes) he has to get used to. Or: Legolas leaps, occasionally stumbling, into a new age, while Gimli can't see the wood for the (green)leaf.
"How do your people court then?"
The question was not as abrupt as it would seem, firstly because the news that his brother was courting had clearly left Legolas in deep thought for a number of days, secondly because Legolas had long ago confessed his curiosity about the lives and customs of Gimli's kin, and thirdly because Legolas' grace was well-known to be in his light feet and not his manners.
However, Gimli saw no reason to let him have his own way entirely. "And by my people do you mean the Longbeards, or the Dwarves of Erebor, or the wandering mender that I now seem to be?"
"I meant," Legolas said, "wandering jesters."
