Summary
Eddie’s debating the risks of jumping out the window and fleeing the country when the words slip out of their own accord. She’s just as shocked as Buck is, and that’s a pretty damn high bar.
“I’m probably a woman.”
It comes out far too casually for the energy of the conversation thus far, and the sudden shift has Buck and Eddie standing stock still in surprise. No one says a word. Eddie sort of wants to die just a little bit more the longer the silence lasts.
Buck is the first to break it.
“...Probably?” He looks absolutely bewildered, like that was the last thing he expected to come out of Eddie’s mouth. In fairness, it probably was.
“Definitely,” Eddie amends quietly.
It’s like that one word was the gust of wind to knock over the house of cards. The last sandbag holding back the raging flood. The camel’s back has been obliterated, so to speak. Whatever fucking metaphor it takes for Eddie’s world to fall to pieces. And all it needed was that one admission.
