    Summary

To prevent further conflict between your kingdoms, you're promised in marriage to the elusive Ryomen Sukuna, a legendary conqueror whose reputation included war, murder, curses, and a general lack of patience for human life. He has avoided outsiders long enough that the only available portrait of him is decades old. You naturally conclude that you’re being sent to marry an elderly—possibly dying—warlord.

Sukuna, meanwhile, has been promised a soft-spoken, traditionally feminine bride who would smile beside him, behave prettily, bear his heirs, and leave governing to men.

    He expected an airhead.

    You expected arthritis.

Neither of you were given useful information.

    Summary

She emerges like a nightmare taking form, tall, lithe. Her skin glows with an unearthly light unrelated to the swinging basement light above. Her eyes, bright, unnervingly green. Her form slowly becomes sharper, the shadows clinging to her body like dark silks. The sheer presence of her steals the breath from your lungs; it’s hard to breathe.

She takes a slow step forward, and her gaze sweeps over your circle with an undisguised amusement. You take a step back on instinct. She bends at the waist, a finger touching one of your chalk lines.

“Oh, little scholar,” she muses. “What have you done?”

    Summary

“Invasion of privacy is one thing,” she began. Still motionless on the bed, hands folded neatly in her lap as though she’d run this exact interaction through her head countless times just as she did with her exhaustive calculations. “But thievery? From someone incapacitated, no less? The lows you manage to stoop to never fail to surprise me.”

“And yet you’d trust this lowly thief with your life. Ironic, isn’t it?”

At that, her head whipped to the side, gracing you with the glint of a single blue eye over her poised shoulder. “You were entrusted with my death, not my life. I’d hardly call that an honor.”

You folded your arms and leaned against the doorframe, misgivings melting away with each steady, well-oiled turn of her key. She was alive and well and—most importantly—the same as ever. Had she not retained any semblance of herself, you would’ve considered it no less than a second death, even crueler than the first.

The sole thing Rosaria can count on is being pestered each day. Though, when the Church switches tactics and sends a pretty, little nun her way, you both get more than you bargained for.
