“Because of my psychic powers.” he said, simply, plainly.
Satoru blinked at that. “Psychic powers?”
“Yes.”
Satoru looked at him.
Shigeo looked up at Satoru. He took another bite of his cookie. He failed to elaborate.

Unprepared, and therefore unable to bite her tongue, Iya says, “Weren’t we supposed to introduce ourselves first?”
The woman tilts her head back and laughs. “Oh, right, my mistake.” She kneels down to Iya’s level, glimmering gray eyes meeting shining pink ones. “Special Grade Sorcerer Tsukumo Yuki.” She pokes Iya between the eyes. “And you?”
“Iya Zaitseva.”
“Well, then, Iya.” Tsukumo tilts her head to the side. “Mind if I ask about that technique of yours?”
“…Technique?” Iya echoes. She runs a mental translator, техника? Oh! “This?” Iya cups her hands. Glowing light dances in her palms.Tsukumo looks at it curiously. “Hm… is that Light Manipulation?”
Iya shrugs. She never got a chance to learn her technique properly.
“Well, you seem pretty strong, huh?” Tsukumo lifts her gaze from Iya’s blood-soaked hands to her eyes. “Do you want to become a jujustu sorcerer?”

I kneel to gently place the skateboard on the ground. Its wheels grumble softly.
“It’s not gonna break, y’know.” Dani points out. “It’s made for wear and tear.”
I guess so. I look up again at plenty of teenagers, and some adults, and some smaller children, battering their boards against feet and knees and metal railings. I look back down at mine. It looks so new. Because it is.
I lift my foot and step on the board. It rolls slightly, giving under my weight. I am unbalanced on it. I nearly fall.
