Kim Soleum's face is still cast in shadow. "The flat above ours is leaking water onto my bed."
Saheon's stomach drops. "Are you taking mine?"
Kim Soleum seems to pause. "I was just going to take your space heater to the couch, but if you're offering, then sure."
There's a leaky pipe above Kim Soleum's room. Somehow, this is enough to change everything.

Juwan colored. “I’m sorry about coming over suddenly, I just… I couldn’t even invite you over early to ask you this. If my mom found out…” He shuddered.
“What’s this? What’s this? Juwan, you crazy bitch, did you get a girl pregnant or something? You’re blushing!” Eunyung exclaimed with a kind of delighted consternation, eyes sparkling.
“No! No! Nothing like that!” Juwan said desperately. There was nothing for it. He would have to say it. “No, I came to ask, Eunyung… do you have any experience with, um, with men?”
Eunyung’s expression went from delighted and disbelieving to delighted, disbelieving, and manic. “There is no way that you’re asking me what I think you’re asking me.”

Summary
The video, when they Skype, is clearer, though the sound is delayed on Carlos's side. Or rather, the video is premature; at Carlos's best estimate, he receives the visual transmissions ten seconds before they're recorded. He's getting used to seeing Cecil's expressions in reaction to what he's just about to say.

"They will pay for this," Cecil says, so softly Carlos can only make out the words by reading the movement of Cecil's lips. "Oh, they will pay, pain for pain, thrice over, that they hurt an innocent, a simple creature that never did them or their precious financial interests any harm. We will make them pay..."
Perhaps Khoshekh was not ripped from the air, but rather threw himself from it. Tore himself from where he belonged, as painful and as possibly permanent as that displacement was, to defend something more important than his own unique existence. Someone more important
