Bruce was preparing to stand, perhaps to request Alfred bring up a soup or some crackers, when an impossibly small hand slipped into his and squeezed. Bruce startled, just a little, but he kept enough presence of mind to squeeze back before the hand could dart away.
He would have thought Dick too independent, too invested in proving his own grownup-ness, to ask for something as childish as hand holding.
