Olruggio arrives home in the middle of the night after working with a client. He doesn't expect Qifrey to still be awake and awaiting his arrival. But when the two share a drink, lips loosen and secrets spill between them.
“I told you not to wait up for me.” He pushes a frustrated hand through his hair.
“I know.”
Silence stretches between them. Olruggio isn't sure if it's because he's practically half asleep but something feels… off about Qifrey. He steps closer, concern pulling at his brow. Soft purple underlined his friend’s eyes, sitting in dark contrast against his pale skin. He must not have been sleeping again. Qifrey averts his gaze, like he can hear Olruggio’s thoughts.
“Nightmares again?”
Qifrey breathes a humorless laugh, eye closing as he shakes his head, “You know me too well, my dear friend.” He gestures to the low table between them, “Sit with me?”

“Clea is it?” he asked. His voice was husky with a hint of gravel. It shouldn't have affected her but her stomach clenched to spite her.
“That depends entirely upon who's asking.”
The man chuckled with a lopsided grin stretching over his features, “I'm fairly certain every social elite in Paris knows of the infamous Dessendre Heir. I've just come to see if the rumors are true.”
Clea’s brows pinched. Rumors? That was a new development. But of course, she kept her cool with a dismissive response. “I'm sure whatever they say about me is true.”
