He’d suspected as much—it was impossible not to figure out the truth. Almost five years of radio silence does that to you. The tiny flicker of hope you once nurtured and shielded from biting winds, eventually dies after one coincidence too many. Denial loses her place at the table with each message left unread and call unanswered. Hanbin’s not stupid; he understood from the beginning of their new lives.
Supposedly, the truth sets you free. Whichever genius came up with that saying, Hanbin decides, was a goddamn liar.
Zhang Hao’s staring off into the sparkling lights, the barest hint of a rueful smile pulling at his lips. “After disbandment, I didn’t want to see you. Not until now.”
At the 2030 MAMA Awards, Hanbin sees a familiar face, wins some trophies, and finds the answers to a few of the million questions he never dared to ask.

This one hurts. A lot.
A take on their partnership that I could absolutely envision as a prequel to canon. It's the kind of story that you read hoping and hoping for some kind of catharsis, a moment where they're finally in synch, but the author stubbornly refuses to let it all be so easy. As one commenter noted, that frustrating, complicated messiness makes this feel like a particularly mature take on their dynamic. It's always hard reading a story that leaves you feeling like the main pairing shouldn't actually be together -- at least, not as the people they are now. Poor Jayce just breaks my heart here with how poorly his needs are being met and how deeply attached he is in spite of it. I felt lonely and abandoned just reading about it.
So then maybe it's odd to bookmark a fic that left me feeling worse off than before I read it, but it's just so well-done. There's a great deal of insight to be gleaned here about Viktor and Jayce, Caitlyn, Mel, and the politics of Piltover which makes this a good choice if you're looking for something bittersweet and realistic. Just consider pairing it with your choice of post-canon story in which they sort their shit out!

Summary
The Machine Herald is captured by Piltover after a failed attack on the bridge, and he is mortally wounded in the process. Jayce must risk everything to save him and repair the damage done, racing against the clock as Piltover hunts him down for treason, but the history between them complicates things. Despite his claims that his actions are no longer dictated by emotion, Viktor is still harboring anger and hatred for his exile in the wake of Jinx's attack, and blames Jayce for what happened. But despite it all, they still care about each other (in their own violent, traumatized ways) and as time runs out, necessity forces them to face the past—and each other—if they want to get out of this unscathed.

This is such a strong and unique series! A look at post-canon jayvik that feels very fresh and creative, with incredibly rich worldbuilding and bold, nuanced takes on the characters that I haven't seen anywhere else. For me, this is honestly god-tier Arcane fic.
I was initially a little caught off guard by the meljayvik in the second installment but I'm really glad I stuck it out past my initial scepticism. Mel and Viktor's dynamic is so interesting, and the three of them have a complicated, magnetic chemistry that evolves into a bond strengthened by their shared history and trust in one another (also, shout-out to that smut scene with the yellow sash...). I wound up thoroughly invested in Mel's journey as she battles through Noxian politics and her own traumas; the second story is really her time to shine. Part four is another standout for me - AU Jayce is heartbreaking in his loneliness and pain, and the fact that he and Viktor almost didn't meet makes their ultimate bond so much more precious. Highly recommend!

The parallels and deepening camaraderie between Bridgens, Peglar, Fitzjames, and Crozier make for a beautiful and exquisitely painful read. The end hurts more in this version, but it's a worthwhile pain to take on.

One so terrifying, so utterly disgusting, he’s never inspected it too closely, but one he’s been aware of vaguely, detachedly, ever since he was nine with his small hands wrapped around a dull knife, covered in the blood of others and shaking uncontrollably. Not from fear, though, or terror at having gutted two human beings like pigs.
Perhaps he is wired incorrectly, the synapses in his brain skewed and queer. Perhaps he was born like that, coming out of the womb erroneous and bad, despite his mother’s words of No one gets born wrong, Eren.
Morbidly, he’s relieved that she died before she could realize what a monster he really is.
Because that’s what he is, isn’t he – a monster. A feral beast; impetuous, irascible, insatiable.

Holy shit. THIS, THIS IS WHAT I'VE BEEN LOOKING FOR! The plotty, mature, stunningly romantic longfic of my dreams, and I can't believe I almost missed it because I always filter out A/B/O tags. I'd really encourage anyone else who's not a fan of omegaverse to give this story a chance, because it is so, so much more than A/B/O tropes and is definitely worth overlooking a few squicks for.
One of this fic's strongest points is the way it maintains its excitement and forward momentum all the way to the end because the plot is so gripping and the relationships between the characters are so complicated. I loved the interwoven interview transcripts for delivering continued suspense and intrigue, and I also loved the use of formal/informal names ("Min Yoongi" vs. "Yoongi" vs. "hyung") in the narration as a proxy for the fluctuating intimacy of yoonkook's relationship. The ending was also *extremely* satisfying; I wasn't sure the author was going to go there, but I'm so glad they did!
SUCH a highly recommended story.

An underrated gem! Highlights include Tae's cats, Jin (just...everything about Jin), and all the unique little details about wizarding Korea. Love that all the different relationships between characters are equally important -- whether platonic, familial, or romantic -- so the story doesn't lose its tension once the main pairing get together.

Chapter one of this work is absolutely exquisite. Perfectly canon-adjacent in a way that makes the story feel real, with a syrupy-slow buildup of tension, angst, flirtation and unspoken feelings. I also found myself really interested in the side plots about the other members, which gave the story a welcome depth by introducing sources of conflict outside of the main pairing.
Unfortunately, the second chapter didn't quite land for me in the same way, partly for pacing reasons and partly for matters of personal taste. I'd definitely still highly recommend this fic, but for future re-reads I think I'll stick to treating the first chapter as an open-ended one-shot. Of course, even with that stipulation this story easily ranks among my favorite idol-verse fics of all time!
