Summary
Collapsed on the ground was a young woman—no older than Golden Cheese herself, really, and perhaps even a bit younger—dressed in silky green robes, her white hair half undone from its braid and spilling around her shoulders.
Clasped close to her chest was a staff, the tip shaped into the unmistakable bell of a calla lily blossom and adorned with a glittering stone. A magic-user then, perhaps. Although her magic didn’t seem to be doing her much good now, if the dark circles beneath her eyes were of any indication.
“By the cheeses, you two!” Golden Cheese exclaimed, striding forward and hoisting the young woman into her arms. “What in the world were you doing, just standing around? She needs a doctor!”

Summary
Things would fall on him and wake him up in the middle of the night. His laptop would get shut off in the middle of writing an essay. Notes and printed assignments would go missing. In one particularly egregious example, the ghost had carefully disassembled the sandwich Takumi had made himself for lunch and laid every ingredient out neatly on the kitchen counter, as if to mock him.
It was clear the ghost was trying to bully him into moving out. Takumi, however, was nothing if not stubborn.

Summary
He did sometimes wonder what those big machines were for, though. They didn’t seem like normal hospital equipment, since he only ever saw them in this room, and on the odd occasion he’d gotten a good enough vantage point to see inside they looked like they had humans in them. He’d given up on getting any answers from the hospital staff that occasionally visited the strange room, too—they never said anything, and never left out any notes or documents that might tell him something, either.
Oh well. No need to worry about it. In the grand scheme of Takumi Sumino’s life, whatever the humans were doing in here was thoroughly not his problem, anyway.
…or so he thought. Much to Takumi’s dismay, it seemed that the unknown purpose of the strange room actually was his problem, and the worst kind of problem at that: the kind that upended the comfortably boring, routine life he’d established for himself and threw his entire world into chaos.

“Hey, Aotsuki,” Takumi said instead, leaning back against the bars of Eito’s cage from where he was sitting on the grass. “Your disorder makes people look like monsters, right?”
“What a brilliant observation from our illustrious team leader!” Takumi could hear the sarcasm dripping from his words, thick and cloyingly sweet. He could easily imagine the mocking grin that must have been on Eito’s face right then. “Yes, in case my words never managed to make their way into your stupid, ugly head, you and the rest of humanity are unbearable to be around. Emphasis on you.”
“That’s not what I meant,” grumbled Takumi. “I’m trying to… y’know…”
“I don’t know, actually. Please enlighten me.”
“Ugh. You’re insufferable, you know that?” Takumi groaned, finally turning around to look Eito in the eye. “I’m trying to ask if pictures look normal to you. Or, like, drawings and stuff.”
“Hmmm…” Eito closed his eyes. Takumi couldn’t tell if he was deep in thought or just taking a break from looking at him. “…I don’t know.”

Horrid. Retched. Disgusting. Revolting. Hideous.
Those were just a few words that Eito would use to describe all of humanity. Not that he would ever utter those words out loud to any of the filthy monsters in the world. After all, he was forced to associate with them to survive. He had to keep his composure in order to carry out his plan.
He had thought that he would go through the rest of his life in his mental solitude, after being adopted into a new family where he would be able to sequester himself away from prying eyes. But never in his wildest dreams did he imagine what he would encounter in that new home. Or how the small, borderline helpless humanoid creature would somehow carve a special place into his soul and heart.

Gaku Maruko is an ordinary teenage boy living in the Tokyo Residential Complex who has been left directionless with the start of summer vacation. With nothing to do except figure out how to grow into a somewhat self-respecting young man, he steals away the most popular guy he knows, Takumi Sumino, for a day full of assorted antics. In the midst of wasting away their lives, Gaku realizes something important about how he sees Takumi— and wishes he could put that realization right back where he found it.
In another life, that would've been it.
Gaku Maruko is a teenage soldier stationed at Last Defense Academy who just woke up from an invader-induced daydream having heavily repressed something important about how he sees Takumi. He has no way to put that realization back where he found it no matter how much force he crams it into the back of his head with. But war does not need tenderness, nor does it consider youth as more than a valuable asset. First he needs to fight, and then, uh, he'll unpack all that.
