Summary
After the explosion at Dr. Nagel’s lab, Sam and Bucky discover that he was working on more than just recreating the super soldier serum when Zemo is shrunk down to seven inches tall.
He tries to focus through the heat and smoke that is starting to fill the room. A dark shape on the floor a few feet away from him materialises into Zemo’s long, fur-collared coat. He hears Sam urging him to get a move on as Bucky stumbles forward to grab it.
He blinks at the pile of clothes under the coat, sure that he must have hit his head harder than he thought when he was flung across the room from the initial explosion. Zemo’s boots are there as well. Hell, his socks are there. And even more concerning, something is moving inside the burgundy shirt Zemo had been wearing.

When news had come home that Bill had gotten Ravenclaw, Arthur and Molly had shared a look but sent Bill a congratulatory letter and some newly knitted blue mittens. “He was always too smart for me,” Arthur had said, and Molly had hummed.
“Hufflepuff, it’s a… nice… House,” Molly had said the next year, searching in her knitting basket for a shade of yellow she didn’t dislike too badly while Arthur looked over the friendly little missive from Pomona Sprout. How had she ended up with so many ugly threads? They must have been gifts; she wouldn’t have bought this pastel mustard skein, even at a 90% discount.
“You know,” said Arthur, later, as they watched the Express carry Percy away to his first year at Hogwarts. “I don’t think Perce is gonna be the one to break the streak.”
“So it’s a streak, is it?” Molly said, keeping an eye on the twins, who were chasing pigeons she was hoping they wouldn’t manage to catch. It was making Ginny’s day, though, the little girl covering her laughter with her fists, so she wasn’t stopping them yet.
“I think it is now,” he said.

He waits until Bucky’s got a happy mouthful of eggs and toast.
“I want to fuck you when you’re asleep.”
Bucky has too much control over himself to spit out his food, no matter how startled, and he’s too well mannered thanks to Winnifred Barnes’ loving supervision to talk with his mouth full, both of which were what Steve was banking on. Plus, it’s fascinating to watch Bucky’s eyes bug out and then narrow. No other man can chew so slowly while radiating not-necessarily-friendly intent.
Steve smiles his sweetest smile, and Bucky’s eyes narrow further, until they’re luminous blue slits.
He swallows.
Steve helplessly tracks the bob of his throat and drags his eyes back up to Bucky’s.
“Steven Grant,” Bucky says, tone somewhere between amusement and admonishment. “Way to spring that on a guy.”
“I’m communicating!”
“You’re an asshole is what you are.”

His hands don't shake when he presses them against the blood-soaked stump, murmuring in a dead language he only knows because of the nogitsune. Magic flows from him, charging his words, his blood sacrifice. It seeps into the nemeton, cleansing and healing it, purging decades of misuse and abuse.
His hands don't shake as they call up the earth, revitalized from the magic he just poured into the nemeton, to swallow up the body he'd kicked to the ground, dragging it deep under the forest floor.
Before he leaves the clearing, he pulls a bottle of water from his backpack, washing Theo's blood from his hands. They don't shake then either.
