Summary
Max Verstappen had never lost a championship before, not once. There is a reason why he is considered the best driver in the grid, marking his name firmly down in history. So, when Norris snatches the title, Max doesn't quite know how he feels.
Oscar Piastri had never fought for a championship title before 2025. Never truly been in contention, and although he promises himself to be better with every season, when the Abu Dhabi race ends, it all changes. Suddenly, Oscar does not know if he can keep that promise anymore. When his teammate is crowned the newest World Champion, Oscar doesn't quite know how to cope.
While all the lights in Abu Dhabi are turned in Norris's direction, Max slips closer to Oscar. What does it mean to lose, and how could they ever recover from it?
Not alone, that's for sure.

"This is Oscar," Max keeps saying, casual, easy. "He's in engineering. Very smart. Smarter than me, anyway, which is not a hard bar, before you say anything—" and this to Lando, who appears at Max's elbow at various intervals throughout the night.
"Engineering," Lando says, the second or third time they cross paths. "So you're like. Proper smart."
"I'm okay," Oscar says.
"He's very okay," Max says, and the way he says it is slightly different from what Oscar said, slightly warmer, and Oscar doesn't entirely know what to do with that.

Summary
If there's one person more tired of the Dutch national anthem in 2023, it's Max Verstappen, because unlike everyone else, he's heard it hundreds of times. Max is trapped in this endless grey Sunday at Silverstone where nothing ever changes. He races, he wins, he gets to the podium, they play the national anthem, rinse and repeat. It's its own kind of hell.

Summary
It’s not that Oscar minds not talking (in fact he prefers it) but Max has always unsettled him slightly. It’s not Max’s intensity that bothers Oscar, because he’s similarly intense, but just the legend of him; he’s got a lion on his helmet and five championships under his belt, and he can drive from the pit lane to the podium in under sixty laps.
So they just sit there in the quiet for a while.
Something prods at Oscar’s brain about ten minutes in. Poking curiosity. Like someone’s asking him how he feels, genuinely, not the press-ready answer, thanks. He looks at Max, who raises an eyebrow.
