But the man in glasses was still talking about how she’s going to ‘get better’, patting her back gently after each visit. Collei doesn’t want his fake pity. She’s seen her classmates collapse on the floor, seen their shaking hands that they hide behind their backs. They never return, and all she does for them is lay daisies at a memorial.

And then the team saw his face.
The cut above his eyebrow wasn’t deep but there was a blood trickle that run down the side of his temple and dried in a thin dark streak. His lower lip was split open swollen at the corner and a purpling bruise stretched high across one cheekbone. He looked like he’d walked straight out of a bar fight.
