Summary
Jayce didn't do well in the cold.
He was a blacksmith, an engineer. He spent his days working in front of a forge or sweating over a soldering iron. He was too accustomed to the roiling heat, he caught a cold the second snow started to fall. That became the diplomatic excuse, when he needed to quietly and politely bow out of whatever social or fundraising event the Kiramman's had arranged, or later down the line at the endless hand-greasing galas or dinners the Man of Progress had to attend that happened to be scheduled on the first snow of the season.
Jayce fucking hated snow.

Without thinking, Jayce brought his other hand up, placing one on either side of Viktor’s neck. The smaller man didn’t seem to notice, so there was nothing to stop Jayce when he began to squeeze lightly.
Running his thumbs along the back of Viktor’s shoulders, he sought out the collections of tense muscles. When he found a particularly bad spot, he dug his thumb into it, rubbing circles against the knot.
“Ow, Jayce,” Viktor jumped, craning his head around to shoot the man an annoyed look.
“What are you doing?”
“Trying to get these knots out,” Jayce shot back plainly.
“Well… stop it,” Viktor chuckled nervously, but there was hardly any punch to his tone.
Jayce didn’t stop.
He knew that he couldn’t have even if he wanted to. -

Summary
Jayce was better at sociable things. Viktor hated parties but understood one half of a dynamic duo wasn't as compelling. Instead he sat at their assigned table, content to be the silent partner. He was kept company by Ximena Talis, Jayce's plus one. With the amount of parties they sat through together, if Ximena had to pick favorites, she'd have to think about it. And Ximena was definitely Viktor's favorite Talis.
